Tuesday intro: Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

Once again I’m linking up again with Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea who hosts a post every Tuesday for people to share the first chapter / paragraph of the book they are reading, or thinking of reading soon.

tuesdayI’m also joining in with Teaser Tuesday, hosted by The Purple Booker, where you share teasers from your current read. I read a lot of these posts over the course of an average Tuesday so thought it would be fun to join in here too.

This week, I am reading Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, which I have heard some great things about.  There is a bit of a sci-fi element here so I hope it’s one I can get away with.  Here’s what it’s about.

“Are you happy with your life?”

Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious.

Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits.

Before a man Jason’s never met smiles down at him and says, “Welcome back, my friend.”

In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor, but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.

Is it this world or the other that’s the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could’ve imagined—one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.

And here’s how it starts…

What do you think? Would you keep reading?

  1. I read this one last year and really liked it. It was different from what I usually read, but pretty addicting. Interesting story. Hope you like it!

    • I don’t either, or I say I don’t but I think that’s because I don’t read books set in space and that’s what always pops into my head when I think sci-fi.

    • You know I was thinking of you when I picked it up. I am determined to do Sci-Fi this year and would love to do something where we do a buddy read or we each recommend a book in our favourite genre to the other. Just need to get organised!

  2. I read it last year and really enjoyed it! A bit out of my wheelhouse, but very good writing and stick with it if you’re not sure in the first few chapters, because it will grab your attention soon!

    • Yes, it was out of my comfort zone but I have enjoyed it. A few bits that were over my head but otherwise I have enjoyed it.

    • I am glad I did. It wasn’t really my style but it was well written. I have to say I got a bit confused in places with the idea but there was plenty of tension and drama.
