Tuesday Intro: Hide and Seek by M. J. Arlidge

Once again I’m linking up again with Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea who hosts a post every Tuesday for people to share the first chapter / paragraph of the book they are reading, or thinking of reading soon.

tuesdayI’m also joining in with Teaser Tuesday, hosted by The Purple Booker, where you share teasers from your current read. I read a lot of these posts over the course of an average Tuesday so thought it would be fun to join in here too.

This week, I’m reading one of my Cloak and Dagger Challenge reads – Hide and Seek by M. J. Arlidge (an author I also like a lot)…

Here’s what it’s about…

Hide and SeekPrison is no place for a detective
Helen Grace was one of the country’s best police investigators.
Now she’s behind bars with the killers she caught.

Framed for murder
She knows there is only way out:
stay alive until her trial and somehow prove her innocence.

Locked up with a killer
But when a mutilated body is found in the cell next door,
Helen fears her days are numbered.

A murderer is on the loose.
And she must find them.
Before she’s next . . .

Here’s how it starts…

She moved fast, keeping her head down.  The corridor was full of bodies tonight, but she bullied her way past them, never once looking back.  Expletives and abuse accompanied her clumsy progress and as she turned the corner into her wing, she felt a large glob of saliva hit the back of her neck.  Normally she would have turned to confront the offender – she loved cracking bones – but there was no question of that tonight.

And here are some teasers…

“All she wanted to do was close her eyes and sleep, but willing herself to be strong, she squinted at the shapes and slowly her vision normalized. As it did so, she was surprised to find Jordi, Noelle and Babs standing in front of her” (page 77)

“She had decided against a conventional approach.  Normally she would have presented herself at reception and asked to see the suspect, but there was no way she could do that with Stonehill.” (page 159)

What do you think – would you keep on reading?

  1. I have the first book in the series…and I’d better start reading soon! I love the sound of this one…what could be worse than a cop in prison with people out to get her? Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.
