Once again, I’m joining in with Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene of Reading Reality for Stacking Shelves, where you share the real and virtual books you have added to your shelves in the last week.
It’s been a good week for reading this week and I feel like I have my Netgalley reviews under control. I have a few “real” books that are due for review but, overall, I am back on track – yay! So a perfect excuse for requesting more books and a trip to the library right?
I was actually pretty good with Netgalley. I downloaded one read now selection and requested one book (which I was approved for, making me feel very happy!).
The read now book was the second in the Stillhouse Lake series, the first of which I loved (review here) so I have high hopes for this one…
Every time Gwen closed her eyes, she saw him in her nightmares. Now her eyes are open, and he’s not going away.
Gwen Proctor won the battle to save her kids from her ex-husband, serial killer Melvin Royal, and his league of psychotic accomplices. But the war isn’t over. Not since Melvin broke out of prison. Not since she received a chilling text…
You’re not safe anywhere now.
Her refuge at Stillhouse Lake has become a trap. Gwen leaves her children in the protective custody of a fortified, well-armed neighbor. Now, with the help of Sam Cade, brother of one of Melvin’s victims, Gwen is going hunting. She’s learned how from one of the sickest killers alive.
But what she’s up against is beyond anything she feared—a sophisticated and savage mind game calculated to destroy her. As trust beyond her small circle of friends begins to vanish, Gwen has only fury and vengeance to believe in as she closes in on her prey. And sure as the night, one of them will die.

The requested book was by the author of one of my favourite detective series. This isn’t part of that but I couldn’t resist as it sounds so good…
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered, buoyed by his mother’s devout faith, his father’s practical wisdom, and his two other misfit friends.
Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls.
Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design—especially not the tragedy that caused him to turn his back on his friends, his hometown, and the life he’d always known. Running from the pain, eyes closed, served little purpose. Now, as he looks back on his life, Sam embarks on a journey that will take him halfway around the world. This time, his eyes are wide open—bringing into clear view what changed him, defined him, and made him so afraid, until he can finally see what truly matters.

The library finds are also for a favourite author and a favourite series and a desperate, last ditch effort, to meet my “finish a series” goal for the cloak and dagger challenge.
In the darkest corners of the city, there is a thriving nightlife where people can let loose and cross the lines of work and play, of pleasure and pain. But now that sanctuary has been breached. A killer has struck and a man is dead.
In a world where disguises and discretion are the norm, one admission could unravel a life. No one wants to come forward to say what they saw or what they know—including the woman heading the investigation: Detective Helen Grace.
Helen knew the victim. And the victim knew her—better than anyone else. And when the murderer strikes again, Helen must decide how many more lines she’s willing to cross to bring in a devious and elusive serial killer…

Prison is no place for a detective
Helen Grace was one of the country’s best police investigators.
Now she’s behind bars with the killers she caught.
Framed for murder
She knows there is only way out:
stay alive until her trial and somehow prove her innocence.
Locked up with a killer
But when a mutilated body is found in the cell next door,
Helen fears her days are numbered.
A murderer is on the loose.
And she must find them.
Before she’s next . . .

And that’s it for me. What about you – what have you been adding to the shelves, virtual and otherwise, this week?

I need to grab my copy of Stillhouse Lake and start reading! A series…wow!
I have the first M.J. Arlidge book (Eeny Meeny), and I’d better hurry up and read it, as these others in the series look very tempting, too. Enjoy your week!

Yes, grab it quite. Killhouse is on NetGalley as a read now at the moment so you could grab a copy of that too.

It’s one of my favourite places. I love the guilt-free feeling if I don’t finish a book and always managing to find something new to me.

I like the sound of these books, Emma. I haven’t got around to reading Stillhouse Lake, yet – this sequel looks good and Little Boy Blue sounds like one of the those dark, twisty books that has me sleeping with the light on… I hope you enjoy them!

I have a feeling there will be a lot of people getting killed in these books – nothing like a bit of murder as the nights grow dark 🙂
