Weekly update

Hi all and welcome to a slightly later than normal weekly update.  We were away this weekend – camping in the rain and away from all WiFi – and I wasn’t organised enough to get my post pre-written and scheduled.  So, I hope everyone had a good weekend and Happy Monday!

Last week was a good one for me and the camping, despite the wet and the cold, was actually a lot of fun because we got to spend it with friends we don’t get to see that often since we moved.  Work wise, it’s still quiet as I plan my exit so I’m just preparing for my replacement with a big handover list.  And new life wise, I just registered as self-employed which was a gulp but in a good way. Now I just need to get some work in!

33845132On the blog, I posted four times.  First up was my review of Close to Home by Robert Dugoni, one of my favourite detective series with one of my favourite female detectives (Tracy Crosswhite).  Here she is trying to solve a seemingly simple case of hit and run but things get complicated quickly when the Navy get involved.

imageI also reviewed Follow You Home by Mark Edwards, which I’d been looking forward to reading as it was my first book by the author, who I know other bloggers out there rave about.  Unfortunately, this just didn’t hit the spot for me.  I got confused by a plot with one too many twists and I couldn’t get away with the characters, meaning I found it harder to care.

34452770Following on from my naming Tracy Crosswhite one of my favourite female detectives I decided to name my top five on Wednesday.  They weren’t in any particular order and people’s comments made me realise I should have gone for a top ten as I missed out some really good women on there!

And finally, on Friday, I joined in with Billy at The Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer with his book blogger hop, writing about how I do choose books for their covers.  This is something I have written about before so here I just shared some of my latest favourite covers.

And that was it for this week posting wise.  Book wise, I managed a trip to the library where I loaned out way to many books (clicking on the covers will take you to goodreads to find out more)

Not sure where I’ll start but they all look good so maybe it doesn’t matter?

What about you – what have you been up to this week, reading and otherwise?

  1. I enjoyed The Weird Sisters and The Pocket Wife. At some point, I need to check out the Robert Dugoni books. Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

I finally made up for my lack of Netflix viewing yesterday…I’m re-watching Nurse Jackie.

  2. I’m delighted the camping went well despite the atrocious weather – I’m assuming you had the same wind and rain that we did – I’m just relieved you weren’t blown away! And the very best of luck in your new career – I hadn’t realised you were going to be self employed:) Have a great week, Emma.

    • Yes, lots of wind and rain. It cleared on the sat. Night so we managed to have a fire pit and an old fashioned sing-song with the kids. If there is a next time though it will be July or August (not that you can count on dry weather then).

      • It was a reasonable idea to plan it for this time of year – because of Himself’s birthday and our wedding anniversary, I know that this time of year is usually warm and fine:)

  4. Ooh yay for camping (minus the rain)! And for being self- employed soon. Sorry to hear Follow You Home was a bit disappointing, but Close to Home sounds pretty good!

  5. I love the cover for The Binding Song! I have to check that one out! It looks like you have lots of great reading ahead of you. I grabbed way too many books from the library myself. But really it is so enjoyable and there are so many good books that I want to read! I hope you get the chance to read them all 🙂 Have a great week!

  6. Camping is fun. In the rain, not so much. I love the look of all your books. I actually have a copy of The Fall of Lisa Bellow, but I started it and I wasn’t in the mood for it. Hopefully I can try to pick it up again soon. Have a good week and happy reading!
