Once again I’m linking up again with Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea who hosts a post every Tuesday for people to share the first chapter / paragraph of the book they are reading, or thinking of reading soon. In really enjoy these tasters when I read them on other blogs so wanted to join in.
This week I’m reading Let the Dead Speak by Jane Casey, an author I’ve read a fair few books from, though not all – and not all in this series. Here’s what it’s about….
A murder without a body
Eighteen-year-old Chloe Emery returns to her West London home one day to find the house covered in blood and Kate, her mother, gone. There may not be a body, but everything else points to murder.A girl too scared to talk
Maeve Kerrigan is young, ambitious and determined to prove she’s up to her new role as detective sergeant. She suspects Chloe is holding something back, but best friend Bethany Norris won’t let Maeve get close. What exactly is Bethany protecting Chloe from?A detective with everything to prove
As the team dig deeper into the residents of Valerian Road, no one is above suspicion. All Maeve needs is one person to talk, but that’s not going to happen. Because even in a case of murder, some secrets are too terrible to share…
And here’s how it starts…
It had been raining for fifty-six hours when Chloe Emery came home. The forecast had said to expect a heatwave; it wasn’t supposed to be raining.
And Chloe wasn’t supposed to be home.
Not much of a teaser I admit but is it enough to keep you reading?

I like the description and although the intro is brief, I’d read more.

It does sound like it will be good doesn’t it?

Enough of a teaser to be interesting. I like the premise too.

I wasn’t sure if I should have included more but don’t think it would have added anything, I hope it’s as good as I think it will be.

I’ve read each and every book in this series and it’s a big favorite of mine. I have this book preordered and love that you gave us a short (why so short????) teaser. So, yes, I’d definitely continue and I will be reading this one as soon as it is in my hot little hands. LOL

Great praise. I haven’t read them all but have really enjoyed every one. It was so short because the next paragraph was so long and it took about here to get to the wow moment.

That intro may be brief but it’s enough to get me hooked! So yes, I’d be tempted to keep reading this one 🙂

It is – the next paragraph was so long though I didn’t want to include and not sure it adds – there isn’t a prologue which normally has more of a wow! With intros.

This had just the right amount of intrigue to sound very promising. Hope you enjoy. x

I hope it is good enough to lose myself in, especially as the weather in the intro matches the weather here!

Reminded me of Gone Girl..I hope this is not as twisted as the former. Enjoy the reading!
