Weekly update: 2nd October, 2016

Happy Sunday all – hope you are having a good weekend. Ours has been ok, though there has been more time spent shopping than I would like…my daughter has a neon themed birthday party to go to – I didn’t realise quite how hard it would be to find any neon clothing other than dance wear. We managed in the end but it made yesterday a long day! Today we are taking it easier, going swimming this morning followed by a lovely Sunday lunch with my parents. I plan on eating way too much and there might be a few cheeky glasses of wine in there as well!.

Blog wise, I posted two reviews this week. First up was The Ice Twins by S. K. Tremayne, a suspense with a spooky twists and a couple try to figure out which of their identical twins survived a tragic accident. I liked it a lot but loved my second book, Why Did You Lie? by Ysra Sigurdardottir. Set in Iceland, this was a really clever piece of crime fiction with seemingly unconnected people seemingly taking their own life. It was also amazingly well translated.   I also wrote about encouraged others to review for the book blogger hop and posted my monthly round-up…so, all in all, a good blogging week.

Reading wise, I finished my Tuesday Intro, Fractured by Catherine McKenzie, and loved it. I’ll be posting a review Monday. I didn’t get to anything else though due to work and more TV watching in my downtime than reading (we tried some new shows including Designated Survivor, which I’m not sure about at all, and Pitch, which might be fun). I’m not sure what I will read this week, possibly the Jodi Picoult from last week as it’s calling to me and I have plenty of time to sit and savour it.

And that’s it for this week other than leaving you with a video that shows there is maybe a reason people don’t wear neon anymore (unless they are seven).

How was your week? What did you do? What did you read?

  1. Can’t wait to read Fractured!!!! 🙂

    1. I just finished. Loved it. Hope you do too.

  2. Swimming and lunch sounds pretty good! Hope you have a great weekend. I really want to read Why Did You Lie- and I love that cover.

    1. It was great. Now I am full and tired and a happy bunny. I can really recommend Why did you lie? Still happy I read it. Have a good week.

  3. Ohh, I have never read a book that is sat on Iceland!
Ice Twins are on my tbr for months now…
As for me, today I’m starting All She Ever Wished For by Claudia Carroll.

    1. I hadn’t either but I will be reading more. I haven’t heard of the book you mentioned so will check it out. Thanks for stopping by. Have a good week.

  4. Ha! I was a child of the 1980s so had a lot of neon! Socks, gloves, belts and so forth. I didn’t have a CHOOSE LIFE shirt though! (And I loved WHAM!)

    1. I had a few pieces of neon but discovered black by the time I was a teenager and never looked back. 😄

  5. Oh my gosh, neon, I hope it never becomes popular again. Ha ha! I have my blogversary giveaway running this month, so I am excited about that. Have a fabulous week 🙂

    1. Me too…though I am quite taken by the nail polish she got 😄. Happy anniversary. Will pop over to your blog. Have a good week.

  6. I read the Ice Twins and thought it was pretty good too. Maybe I will check out Why Did You Lie since you said you liked that one even better. Hope you have a great week!

    1. I think they are both different in that The Ice Twins had the spooky side. I almost think it’s a ghost story, which I do love. I just got so drawn into Why Did You Lie? In a way I don’t always with books. Thank you for visiting my blog. Have a good week.

  7. I am really looking forward to Fractured…and I love the look of Why Did You Lie?

Neon…when my daughter was little, she loved a show called Punky Brewster, who wore lots of layers and colors. Needless to say, we had to buy a few of those items…lol.

Love that video! Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.

    1. I had forgotten about Punky Brewster. I just kept thinking of an awful neon pink leopard print shorts set I had (which sent shivers down my spine and wish I am glad there are no photos of). I just hope it isn’t coming back into fashion!

  8. I didn’t actually get my reading reviewed this week, so I hope to get that done today. Thanks for sharing your reviews!

    Here’s my Sunday Post!

    1. Good luck with catching up. It’s the one thing I’ve been doing well with recently, actually getting my posts up on time. Not sure how long it will last though. Have a good week.

  9. I would imagine shopping for neon would be a bit difficult! Glad it’s over now though. haha

    Have a great October,

    1. More than I imagined. I don’t know why I thought it might be easy and left it till the last minute. Thank god they are kids and how they look doesn’t matter too much amongst friends!

  10. All those books look really good! Glad you enjoyed them. I have been trying out some new shows too and so far I am liking the ones I picked. (Lethal Weapon, McGyver, Bull, and Exorcist.)

    Happy reading,

  11. Ugh… I recall traipsing around shops looking for some particular item of wardrobe with the children when they were younger! Hope the Sunday lunch went really well – it sounds like you deserved it:) This is my Sunday Post – https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2016/10/02/sunday-post-2nd-october/

    1. Lunch was lovely. You cannot beat Sunday lunch. I dread every time I open an invite to a party in case it says “fancy dress optional” because it never is, it’s always mandatory.

      1. Oh I know that one. My worst experience though, is when my sister-in-law initially said fancy dress and then changed her mind and forgot to tell us. I arrived as a Christmas Fairy, complete with fake eyelashes and rouged cheeks, with everyone else there in smart party clothes…

        1. Oh no…I hope you can laugh about it now?

          1. Yes… it’s a long time ago, now!

  12. I really love the cover of The Ice Twins and Why Did You Lie sounds fantastic. I’m glad you had two positive reviews for last week AND a good read. 🙂

Ahhh. Neon… Please don’t let that make a comeback!!!

Have a great week and happy October!

    1. They are both eye catching in their own way I think. The title of The Ice Twins too just catches your imagination too. I pray neon doesn’t come back either though it was fun listening to wham again. Have. A Good week.

  13. Sounds like a busy shopping trip. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. It was and I’d say fun but i really don’t like shopping. Still, it’s over now!

  14. Sounds like you had a lovely relaxed Sunday.

I’m interested in Why Did You Lie? – I’ll have to look in to that title a bit more. Glad you enjoyed your most recent read. Happy reading!

    1. It was…too much food but isn’t that what Sundays all about?

  15. Definitely will be keeping an eye out for Why Did You Lie?

    1. I hope you enjoy if you do read. I have just requested another book by her.

  16. I loved The Ice Twins – I hope you do too. Fractured has been around a few blogs this week, it looks like an interesting read. Enjoy 🙂

  17. Oh neon has to be super hard to shop for. I can’t remember the last time I saw a neon clothing piece in a shop here.

Let me know what you're thinking...
