Hi all, hope you are well. I am finally (well that is) after nearly two weeks of fighting flu and a wisdom tooth infection- it has not been fun! I have, however, been off work as a result which has been – though I shouldn’t say it probably. Because I haven’t been able to do much but lie on the couch and feel sorry for myself, I have also done quite a bit of reading and also catching up on TV shows that are my not-so-guilty pleasure like Supernatural and Vampire Diaries (yes I am a grown woman but there are vampires, I can’t help myself).
Blog wise, I posted two reviews – You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) by Felicia Day, a memoir of an actress people will probably recognise from shows like Buffy and Supernatural but who is much more famous for developing one of the first web series The Guild. This book made me laugh out loud, which is hard to do. Then I reviewed Smoke by Catherine McKenzie which was another non-standard book for me but one I really enjoyed. With a forest fire as a backdrop, this book death with friendship and love in a way that felt real vs. over-emotional.
I also wrote about choosing WordPress over blogger for the book blogger hop (it’s as simple as I find it a simpler platform) and in an effort to get my blog a bit more sorted created an A-Z list of all the reviews I’ve done since I started. It’s part of a master plan to also list by author, genre and rating…not sure how long it’ll take me but it’s nice to have the goal.
Book wise, I finished Only The Brave by Mel Sherratt (see my Tuesday Intro for an overview) and The Bones of You by Debbie Howells. Both are crime fiction so it’s back to my usual reading fare. I’ll be writing reviews for these this week. After these I’m not sure but it will likely be either The Girls by Emma Cline or American Sniper, which I saw the movie for and am now really interested to read as it wasn’t the story I expected (links to goodreads).
What about you – how was your week, what are you reading?
Emma
This week, I’m linking in with Kimba at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer and her Sunday Post and with (a little early) Katherine at Book Date for It’s Monday, What Are you Reading? Head over to see what other bloggers have read, written about or just added to their shelves.
I’m glad you’re feeling better… sounds like it’s been a rough couple of weeks! The Girls sounds like a great read. I finally finished Circling the Sun this week and have started West With the Night… need to find our what really happened.

It was rather awful…I don’t think I’ve been off work this long ever and think I should feel guiltier about it than I do. Books where you have to know what happens are the best. Feel like I’ve had a few of those recently which is good.

I tried to do an A-Z list of books I’ve read and reviewed and got lazy and ended up posting my Goodreads list!

It did take me days. I tried to be clever and it in word but it messed up the links so I just did it the long way…it took a while! My goodreads isn’t much better organised is the problem!

Me too! Smoke was so good. I am torn slightly with The Bones of You at the moment I read it really quickly but I don’t know if I liked Kate. I am sure it will all resolve itself when I write the review.

Being sick is no fun. Glad that you are feeling better! I love Felicia Day!!! My favorite with her is her character on SyFy’s Eureka. It was the first time I’d seen her in anything. She cracks me up. I’ll have to check out her book. Thanks for sharing 😀
Have you heard of the Ultimate Book Blogger plugin from Nosegraze? It is amazing!!! It does all things you were talking about doing with a shortcode. I’ve been using it on my blog since I started. It’s a lifesaver!
Here’s my Sunday Post.

Eureka is the one show I haven’t seen but I plan on trying to find it on Netflix. She seems to be the same in the book as the characters I’ve seen. I haven’t heard of the plugin but I’ll check it out…as long as there aren’t too many instructions! 😜 thanks for stopping by.

Eureka is the best!! I think it’s on Netflix.
The plugin is super easy to use and customize. I love it. Saves me so much time.

There seems to be stuff going around, hope you’re feeling better. And tooth infections are the worst… I think I started Vampire Diaries a while back but I watch so many shows I’m not sure, I should take another look. I seem to be between shows at the moment on Netflix…

There is…it’s the up and down in the weather here. I got hooked on the vampire diaries early but most people I know have given up on it. It’s gotten a bit silly but I quite like that part of it…total escapism.

I’ve got The Bones of You as well.. but I struggle when I get something that’s not published for ages, cos I can’t usually review it until then so I usually deprioritise it until closer to publication date!
I hope you’re on the mend now and I’m sure that time off work on the couch was exactly what the doctor ordered…. 🙂

Feeling much better thank you. I don’t read many review books but I have had this experience recently when I got a book not published till September. I read it anyways and wrote the review so I wouldn’t forget (and actually having a post scheduled ahead for once). I haven’t got the patience to wait.

Glad to hear you are starting to feel better. I always think it is the worst thing in the world to be too sick to read. I was moderately sick two weeks ago, so I just (re)listened to my favorites.
I am really lucky, I saw someone else’s really well done index before I started and really liked it. So, I have been building my Review Index (by title, author, and narrator) and a couple of others as I go along.

I never even thought of listening to books! I was pretty brain dead even for that though to be honest. I will check out your review lists. As mine is very basic. Thanks for stopping by 😊

I think yours is fine; it gets the job done. I still have so few books, that I have most of my Indexes on one page and haven’t done the “divide by letter” yet for the Title Index. I plan to do that eventually, and to divide the indexes into separate pages, but I want to wait until the titles won’t look so lonely under their letters.

She is one of those people that is addictive for some reason – I love seeing her on screen and this book just made me more of a fan.

Also a grown woman and my favorite shows and books are often more of the YA nature as you will see by my post if you visit. Bones of You has a beautiful cover so I will definitely take a closer look as I am a sucker for nice cover art. Glad you are feeling better. Being sick is never easy. Have a great week!

Sometimes it’s nice to get lost in a different world – and feel relieved I no longer have teenage angst (much more attractive in characters than real life!). Thanks for visiting will head over to return the favour…have a good week!

I hope you are feeling better now. I want some concentrated reading time but I don’t want to get sick to have it. Luckily, summer vacation is just around the corner for me. Here is what I read last week. Happy reading!

I am thank you though attempting to take it easy this week as don’t want to get ill again. I would love the whole summer off – sitting in the garden and reading in the sun is my idea of heaven.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. In those times you do need some vampires or some strapping Winchester brothers. They are great to watch. I can’t really get into The Vampire Diaries and I gave up after season 2.

It was the perfect antidote to feeling ill. I know a lot of people didn’t stick with the vampire diaries but I feel like I can’t give up on it now till the end.
