This week, I’m linking up again with Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea who hosts a post every Tuesday for people to share the first chapter / paragraph of the book they are reading, or thinking of reading soon. I really enjoy these tasters when I read them on other blogs so wanted to join in.
Last night I started Only The Brave by Mel Sherratt, the third in the DS Allie Shenton series. I really enjoyed the first two books in the series and this has been on my kindle for forever so I’m excited to be finally starting it. Here’s what it’s about…
When one of the notorious Johnson brothers is murdered and a bag of money goes missing, a deadly game of cat and mouse is set in motion.
DS Allie Shenton and her team are called in to catch the killer, but the suspects are double-crossing each other and Allie has little time to untangle the web of lies.
As she delves deeper into the case, things take a personal turn when Allie realises she is being stalked by the very same person who attacked her sister seventeen years ago and left her for dead.
And here’s how it starts…
Allie Shenton blinked away tears. Her long hair was scraped back in a ponytail, her pretty face scrubbed clean of makeup. She stared at her sister lying in the hospital bed. Karen had been there for two weeks now. It had been touch and go at first, and even though she was stable, she still wasn’t breathing for herself. She was in an induced coma. Only time would tell if she was ever going to become strong enough to fend for herself again, and it was wearing Allie and her husband, Mark, down.
I admit it’s not the most gripping start but what do you think – would you keep reading?

I’m still curious – I’d read more. I hope you enjoy this one.

The beginning is not what I would expect, but the synopsis makes it seem that things get better. Crime novels have always interested me, so I’d keep reading.

The beginning is also a link to the last two books too so it makes more sense based on those when you start reading.

Maybe it’s not the most gripping beginning, but you had me at the blurb. Thanks for sharing…and enjoy. And thanks for visiting my blog.

I like this kind of detective story where there are a couple of stories going on at the same time. I’d keep reading. Enjoy Emma

You should try the series, though would be worth starting at the beginning as the sister story has been running from the first book.

It may not be the most dramatic beginning but I’m definitely intrigued. Plus the blurb sounds fantastic! I’d definitely keep reading.

And I suppose as its the third book in, it’s also because you are quite a way into Allie’s story.

So far, it is…though shouldn’t be surprised as the other two books were really good too.

I’m sorry, but I’m not a fan of crime novels…..this one has a very sad beginning, too. If you’re into such novels, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one! You seem to be doing so already!
Thanks for visiting, and commenting on my own Tuesday Intros post!! 🙂
